Favorite School Memory	Playing in a District finals basketball game in Cherokee against Hull Western Christian in 1984.. We were both rated in the top state in the state, and we were undefeated.. The line of the crowd wanting to get in to watch the game went out the front door of the gym entrance, down the steps, along the sidewalk in front of the parking lot, and ending somewhere down by the Fareway grocery store.. We were down by double digits at half time, and Coach Point gave a rousing speech at halftime particularly Andy Schmillen.. It worked because at the end of the 3rd quarter, we were up by 6, in part mostly by the play of Schmillen. HWC hit a 3 pointer at the buzzer at the end of the game to send it to overtime. Of course it was the guy I was guarding, and Coach made sure I knew about it... He was right... They hit another 3 point shot with about 10 seconds left in OT to tie it again, only to see Alan Anderson drive baseline, and make an incredible shot with 3 seconds left. They called a timeout, and inbounded it to a guy that threw it from 3 quarters of the court, and it rimmed out.. The crowd rushed the floor, and it was bedlam in C'town.. We had a similar game in our next match against Algona Garrigan and won that one in a similar way, that sent us to the Boy State tourney as the Number 1 seed... Gene Sherman from KCAU channel 9 came to town before the tourney and interviewed us players, and coaches, and the Athletic director, and they did a Half hou...(read more)
