About Me	I graduated from high school and entered Purdue University in 1976 majoring in pre-vet. Disillusioned with gender bias at that time, I switched majors to microbiology and then decided to become a dentist like dad. At Purdue, I met my soon to be husband, Lenny. We married after my first year of dental school and will be celebrating our 45th anniversary May 2026. Not knowing where I wanted to practice dentistry, I decided to go into the US Army, mainly because of the residency they offered and the opportunity to live in Germany. I was stationed at Ft Benning GA for the 1 year residency and then moved to Katterbach West Germany 1985-1989. We were there when the Wall came down! Although I wanted to extend my tour in Germany longer, I had to return to the US for military school, after which I was stationed at Ft Knox KY for 3 years. I completed a 2 year residency in comprehensive dentistry (kind of a super general dentist program). Of all places, the Army stationed me in St Louis 1993-96. I practiced in the Federal Building downtown across the hall from the FBI and lived in more affordable Cahokia. It was great to live near family and church. I passed the grueling Comprehensive Dentistry Boards and completed Command and General Staff College during that time. I was accepted into the US Air Force Hospital Dentistry Fellowship at Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland AFB. I was the first Army dentist and 10th fellow to complete the program. It enabled me to dentally treat medically compromised patients safely in a hospital setting and I loved it. I successfully challenged the Hospital Dentistry Boards at the end of my program. Afterwards I hoped to get stationed at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington DC, I was stationed at Landstuhl Medical Center in Germany. Alas, my bosses didn't understand how to best utilize me with the training I had completed, so I reverted back to practicing general dentistry. Still, I enjoyed living in Germany. In 2000, I was selected to start up and direct a 1 year residency in general dentistry at Ft Sill OK. I achieved accreditation during the first class and led two more classes. During my last year of active duty, my health drastically declined, thanks to fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, familial tremors and a terrible leg injury requiring surgery and subsequent hyperbaric oxygen therapy. I retired June 2005. Because of my health problems, I hung up my dental handpiece for good. My husband and I built a home on 52 wooded acres in Stephens County OK, about 40 miles east of Lawton-Ft Sill. We currently have 2 dogs and an outside cat. I was active in the Stephens County Honor Guard, providing final honors for fallen veterans. I currently do paper crafting, primarily making greeting cards, and mosaics. My dogs demand playing ball several times a day. My loving husband and I are looking forward to some traveling both in the States and abroad in the coming months. Probably our most favorite trip was seeing wild polar bears out on the tundra near Churchill, Manitoba, Canada for almost a week. What a rush!
