| Favorite School Memory | My favorite SHS memory would have to be all the Homecomings, Proms, & Mrs. V's classes, & when I was gossiping with a girlfriend in the office & was about to do morning announcements for Mr. Ryan that day--and the mic had been on the entire time. Talk about embarrassing! All her business was all over school. I also remember being a Freshman, and all the cute Senior boys. Now I can look back and think, "Wow. what was I thinking?" I also remember ALL the games I went to throughout my childhood, with my Dad and the boys, and how I was always so proud to follow the teams and see them win titles and championships, especially when the boys won State in Basketball with Mr. Acton. (Who I now have the honor of working with!)But most of all, I remember all the friendships that were made at that school, and how so many of them have stood the test of time. People knock small towns, but my experience at SHS made me who I am today, and I...(read more) |
| About Me | I am now teaching at Globe High School, I teach 11th & 12th grade, and really enjoy it. I enjoy the small town atmosphere and my supportive administrators, and my coworkers and students have been very good to me. Prior to this, I taught in Superior for three years and was very blessed to begin my career there. I had so many positive experiences there. It was with great sadness that I left my position at Superior High School, but felt that changes needed to be made within the district and I did not want to wait for those changes to take place, and felt this was a better professional decision. In the years since I graduated from SHS, I graduated from ASU with my B.A. in 2005, my M.Ed. in 2007, and began teaching at my alma mater, Superior High School, in July of 2005. I was fortunate and blessed to win Arizona Hispanic Teacher of the Year last year. In college, I had the opportunity to intern for Congressman Ed Pastor in Phoenix, which was an awesome experience. I was a finalist for the Fiesta Bowl Queen & Court Pageant for 2 yrs. I've also appeared on shows like Sonoran Living Live and done some modeling professionally, most recently for a magazine. I attended Sincerely, Sandra Modeling & Professional Development School in Chandler, which is owned and operated by Sandra Saoud, an SHS alumni. She has been my mentor, role model, and a dear friend for many years and I am so fortunate that I was able to connect with her and have her as a guide and inspiration in my life, especially as a woman from Superior, and an SHS alumni. I try to pass on the blessing to my own students, especially my female students, so they can also be inspired, empowered and successful. I've traveled all over the place, and plan to travel abroad in the next few years, especially in Europe. I lived in Chandler, Tempe, Mesa for years until I moved back to live in Superior & teach. I substitute taught for SUSD for 2 yrs prior to becoming a full-time teacher, so I have established a really good rapport with kids of all ages in the district. The best part of my day is always when I get a kid that comes back in to my classroom who already graduated, and they're so eager and excited about life & college & work. Even now that I am in Globe, I have seen the fruits of my labor pay off in the lives of my students, which makes my career so much better. Seeing my students accomplish things makes it all worthwhile, and I'm always so thrilled for them. No matter what anyone may say otherwise, this place (SHS) turns out success stories, and we have a rich histo...(read more) |
