About Me	I sat down with myself for a quick interview for my first facebook wall and at first couldn’t think of one single question to ask. Okay, first question has to be: Why are you doing this? Answer: Have to step out there, can’t hide under a rock forever, not if I want to get my name out there—let people know what I do, how, when and why I do it. Okay, what do you do? Answer: Not much---no, that’s not true. I do a lot. I’ve written about twenty novels—mostly Oregon Historical Romance, a couple of contemporary, of which none have ever been published. And, I have a collection of poems and short stories too. Some of the poems have been published in a college magazine. Writing, for me, is my own best entertainment, always has been. It wasn’t until this past year, however, that some home truths were made clear to me; that being, it isn’t enough to love writing, one must know the mechanics, such as point of view, showing instead of telling. I swear that those techniques were never taught through my writing classes. I learned them the hard way, from editors who loved my writing but thought my writing lacked professional quality. After working hard, going back over my novels, I’ve learned to pay closer attention to point of view and to show through dialog and action instead of telling the story. And I have to say, it has paid off. I recently signed a contract with Wildchild Publishing with the intent to see my Oregon Historical Romance published as an ebook. First, of course, there is the editing process, and we’ll see just how much I’ve learned. I have no doubt that I have many more lessons to come. I’m in my head a lot, but on the flip side, for the last fifteen years I’ve been an aquatic exercise instructor, doing classes for folks with arthritis and other afflictions that keep them from doing land exercise. This spring I gave up doing classes and these days I go to the water to do my own thing. The southern belle in me (which I am not and never have been) detests perspiring, getting all dewy, so exercising in the water is the only way to go for me. At home in Central Oregon, my husband of forty-six years and I are retired. We have two West Highland White Terriers and a big old angora tuxedo cat. Our lives are fairly peaceful here (knock on wood). I hope to continue to expand my imagination, stretch my wings and fly off into new realms. Currently I’m exploring the foreign lands of facebook, twitter, blog and website. All scary places, full of pitfalls and perils, and I’m sure to discover every single beast that dwells within those realms, but along the way I’ll meet some new friends and rediscover ...(read more)
