About Me	Bill & Betty (Wiest '67) are actually still alive and living in the old homestead on East Drive) in Oak Ridge. Now KC4GW and Betty, KA4OUI. We haven't been too active on the ham bands since cell phones were invented, but do get on 2m & 70cm from time to time...mostly Red Cross related. We came back to Tennessee from near "Rottenchester, NY" in 1978, when I went to work at Sprague Electric Company, in Clinton, as their Industrial Relations Manager. Clinton and Oak Ridge were big rivals in the 60s, so I told all the plant people I was from New York....until they got to like me...! We bought a nice little 3BR house in Powell shortly after moving there. Powell was a great, nice, quiet little community, 10 miles from everywhere. Not unlike Williamson, NY, but not as friendly ....missed our Yankee friends.... but not the winters.... Ten days after Betty and I moved into our newly constructed house, my mother died, at 66, of an aneurysm. It was a real shock, but I have the solace of living the entire summer with her and my dad, having them get to know Betty better, (we moved to New York, immediately after we were married in 1976.) I had aneurysm surgery in August of 2004. Guess we know whose genes I got! Spent three weeks in ICU...didn't know they were designer genes! Betty "retired" in 1978 and took on the job of full time homemaker and eventually "stay-at-home-MOM" In 1980, we had our second son, and first child together (remember Jason?). Merritt arrived 1/5/80 (4 days 19 hours and 22 minutes too late to claim on 1979 taxes!) Many times I wish we had taken that Jeep ride in the Smokies at Christmas. That was so much fun, we "decided" to have more! Twelve months and 23 days later we had TWIN boys Tony and Pat. Had to get a business license to buy diapers! Life as we had known it ended and a new phase began. After the birth of three boys in 13 months, plans for a Williams basketball team were BRIEFLY considered. In 1983, after 15 years of being nice to EVERYONE 7 days a week 24 hours a day, and a new "scum of the earth" plant manager, I changed careers. Computers were so much more logical. Enjoyed the vanguard of the PC revolution with our speedy 3.76 mhz machines, GIGANTIC 5 meg hard disks (who could EVER need more?) and our friend...DOS, the Black Screen. Life was simple then. In 1989, Betty's family snagged me into the gun business. At that time I had a partner, in Los Angeles, and was traveling the eastern half of the US with frequent trips to LA (not lower Alabama). In any given 30 day period, it was not unusual to be on a plane and somewhere else most of those days. The prospect of being at home more appealed to me. Turned out the hours in the family business were even more brutal AND I didn't get frequent flyer miles! In 2000, Betty's father died we began the long process of selling the business.
