Executive Vice President of Football Operations for the Miami Dolphins
What is Mike Tannenbaum known for?
Mike Tannenbaum, born on February 14, 1969 in New York City, New York, is a notable American football executive and former player. His journey in football started right from Needham High School in Needham, Massachusetts. Tannenbaum is well educated, having earned a degree in accounting with a minor in sports management from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, before graduating cum laude from Tulane University Law School where he specialized in sports law.
Early in his career, Tannenbaum interned for the Pittsfield Mets in 1991 and subsequently worked with the New Orleans Saints in 1994 and the Cleveland Browns in 1995. His roles included being the player personnel assistant and intern in the personnel department. After working in these various positions, Tannenbaum joined the New York Jets in 1997 where he served as the director of player contracts. He continued to rise within the organization, taking on roles such as Director of Pro Player Development, Assistant General Manager, and Director of Pro Personnel before becoming the General Manager and Senior Vice President of Football Operations in 2006.
He went on to sign a contract extension with the Jets through 2014 but unfortunately, following the last game of the 2012 NFL regular season, he did not return for the 2013 season.
After his time with the Jets, Tannenbaum worked with Priority Sports and Entertainment, overseeing coaching, broadcasting, and front-office for the New York branch. His clients included prominent sports personalities such as Dan Quinn, Steve Kerr, Phil Savage, and Jack Arute.
In 2015, Tannenbaum began working as the Executive Vice President of Football Operations for the Miami Dolphins, a role he occupied until 2018. Currently, Tannenbaum works as an NFL analyst for ESPN and has established The 33rd Team, a "football Think Tank".
Throughout his life, Tannenbaum has made major contributions to American football, both as a player and an executive, and his alma mater Needham High School must be proud of his accomplishments.
