About Me	Christmas 2013 Greetings from the Bakers. We wish you and your family a very merry Christmas. We look back over this past year with a lot of joy and gratitude. Our daughter, Amy, who had lived with us for two years while we helped her deal with her Lupus, bought a home about four miles from us this past spring. A small house with a big yard is what she wanted, and she found one that fit the bill. We were able to visit our son, Dan, and his family near Dearborn, MI, in July and November. Though he travels a lot (Australia, Sweden, and China were the farthest trips this year), he enjoys his job for a steel co. Their daughters turned 8 and 2 this year. They are both delightful little girls, and I didn’t even mind the younger calling me “Grandma” when we were there last summer. In September, I cut back to 1/3 time at Orchard Hill and will retire from the church this coming September. They had a wonderful celebration of our ministry there (32 years) in November. It was an evening filled with wonderful memories, many laughs, and great worship. It has been a wonderful congregation in which to be a pastor. The toughest change was vacating my office and having an office at home instead. I think Sally is adjusting well to having me around more, but I miss having a place to “hang out” at church. We’ve been working with the young adult group at church; Sally does a lot of adult teaching and working with our Sunday morning children’s program. I’m still a part of our worship service teaching team, and lead a couple other Bible studies each week. Periodic cortisone shots in Sally’s knees keep her mobile for now. I had cataract surgery this month. Other than that, we are doing well physically. I played a lot of tennis this summer and try to get on the racquetball court regularly. So we feel very blessed and thankful. We look forward to what these next years will hold, confident that God is not through with us yet.
