| About Me | I was born in San Francisco on July 29, 1961. I graduated from New College in San Francisco in 1984, achieving a BA in the Humanities. In 1988, I graduated from the University of the Pacific with an MA degree in Special Education. I've been teaching off and on since 1988. I love to perform. Many years, almost another lifetime, ago, I performed in high school and college plays and musicals. The plays and musicals include "Godspell"; Paint Your Wagon; "Anything Goes"; "Send Me No Flowers"; "Marat/Sade"; "Bocaccio"; "The Wayside Motor Inn"; "You Can't Take It With You"; "Rats"; "Impromptu" and "Torchbearers". Some time ago, I also fancied myself a writer, particularly a writer of poetry. Now, I have written some wonderful things. The problem was that I never saved anything I wrote. I also love to sing, although the only audience to whom I sing seems to be the four walls and every inanimate object which paid for a seat in those four walls. Although I've been teaching for awhile, I am still searching for something which will truly resonate with me as a person, spiritually, emotionally and intellectually. Another important part of my journey has been my recovery. Let's just say, I could write a book on that one. If I could encapsulate the theme of my recovery in one sentence, it would be "True happiness is an inside job, a job which demands humility, honesty, faith, persistence, commitment, willingness, and integrity". In regards to relationships, I've had a few long-term relationships. I have been single since September 2010. So it has been almost two years. I guess I've been learning over and over again it seems, that without honesty, communication, a sense of self, healthy boundaries, humility, trust, and a genuine desire to communicate my needs which is just as strong as hearing the needs of the other person, and God, then there is no relationship. Spiritually, I am still evolving, progressing, learning, relearning and unlearning. Having said that, there are some things that are being revealed to me: 1. Life is a precious gift. 2. I am a spiritual being, having a continuous human experience. 3. True self-identity is found in community. 4. Pain is a part of life. 5. True insanity is thinking I can fill my God-sized hole with a man, money, titles, recognition, and outside validation. 6. True courage is the willingness to ask for help. 7. My past experiences are meant to help others. 8. It always takes what it takes! 9. The greatest learning experience I have had were the times when I fell and got back up. 10. I am either part of the problem or part of the solution. 11. Radical acceptance heals better than judgment. 12. Feelings are, and I don't have to run from them. 13. Most importantly, if I fall short of any of these things, then that's even better, for I am human. 14. I have to learn to love myself, before I can love anyone else. 15.
