| About Me | I was a campus minister for 19 years, first at Elizabethtown Community College in Elizabethtown, KY, then Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, TX, and finally at Radford University in Radford, VA. I was ordained at First Baptist Church, in Radford, VA and my students participated in the service. It was such a humbling and wonderful experience to have the students I ministered to playing such a big part of that special day. My husband, Joe McAfee, preached for that service. We married in 1990. After 19 years of campus ministry, I was endorsed by the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship as a Veteran's Administration hospital chaplain. I worked at the VA Medical Center in Canandaigua, NY as a contract chaplain where my husband was a staff chaplain. We were there for two and a half years, then moved to San Francisco, CA where Joe took a job as chief of chaplain service at the San Francisco VA Medical Center. I was not able to work as a chaplain at that hospital because my husband would have been my supervisor. I did work off and on part-time at the medical center in pre-op surgury, blind services, human resources and volunteer services. When we moved to San Francisco, it was the first time I had not worked since I was 15 years old. It was hard at first, but I learned to love it.
