Favorite School Memory	At first I was startled by this question, because my memories of Lodi High are hazy at best. First of all, my parents moved shortly after my graduation affording my little time to reconnect with old friends or relive old memories after I left home. Second, IÃ¢ï¿½ï¿½m sorry to say, my memory is not what it once was! But after a few moments, some images started coming to mind. I could picture myself sitting in the back seat of a car on a school night in pea soup fog with a few other girls. Our PE teacher, Ann Ganzer, was driving very slowly. We were headed to Sacramento for a workshop featuring a well known choreographer. These were the days before cell phones and we did not find out that this event had been cancelled due to FOG until we arrived at the location and found a note on the door. Today I think it is remarkable that a teacher would take a group of students in her own car, on her own time, under difficult driving conditions to an event just because she thought they might have an interest. This was not an isolated incident. I can also picture myself chipping golf balls on the West Campus field as part of the dubious WomenÃ¢ï¿½ï¿½s Golf Club. I wonder how many young women over the years were the beneficiaries of her efforts to teach physical education as a life skill. I wish I had told her thank you. I wish I had told her that I thought she was an outstanding teacher. I then pictured Mr. Simas leading me away from the tour bus to share an ancient Aztec treasure. I was the only one who got off the bus to see this sight. It had been a full schedule of touring. Kids were tired and Mexico City was hot and humid. As we turned a corner, the stone face of Quetzalcoatl was hiding in a narrow space behind a building, where an ancient temple had stood centuries before. I wonder how many students over the years felt the great love that this educator had for his adopted country, Mexico, and his second language, Spanish (Portuguese was his native tongue). How many students read Quando Las Nubias Cambian de Naris and felt the stunning realization that there were as many great books as there were written languages! I wish I had told him how much I learned from him. How fortunate I was that Mr. Simas was willing to make the trek in the hot sun for just one student. Although no single memory stands out from the English department, someone taught me to diagram a sentence, compose a paragraph, outline a composition, and how to take notes for a research paper. Someone introduced me to Victor Hugo. I think it was, Miss Davis. I wish I could remember who else was responsible for what I think was an excellent education in the English language. Thanks to Mr. Moser I still remember two of the three characteristics of Greek architecture. However, IÃ¢ï¿½ï¿½m sure I have forgotten more lessons than I remember.
