About Me	I graduated in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Washington in Dec65 when Vietnam was heating up. Went to Naval Officer Candidate School in Newport, RI and graduated in Aug66 as an Ensign. Served in the Seabees in Vietnam for two tours - Dong Ha from Apr67-Dec67 and Quang Tri from May68-Jan69 as a Company Commander. In civilian life I worked as an engineer in heavy construction, high-rise construction and infrastructure design. In public life I served in the Legislature as a Washington State Representative for 5 years and as a Washington State Senator for 19. During that time I was the Ways and Means Chair and the Senate Majority Leader. I chose to not run for re-election in 2002 as I thought 24 years was enough. Janie and I were married in Dec66 so we just past our 50th Anniversary. We have two sons, two daughters-in-law and 6 grandchildren 3 girls and 3 boys.
