About Me Retired (April 30, 2015) from Sunrise House after 25 years as the Executive Director. A youth/family counseling/crisis center for teenagers with alcohol/drug problems. I was the basketball Coach at Alisal HS in Salinas for 20 years. Then moved over to Everett Alvarez High School and coached basketball there for 7 years. Got out of coaching because of a bad back (eventually surgery). I have 1 daughter (Mikaela) who just graduated from Cal-Berkeley with a double major. With honors. Wonder if my 2.4 gpa would have qualified. She spent one semester studying at Bogazici University in Istanbul, Turkey. After graduating, she took a 4 month journey. Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Australia and New Zealand. A once in a life opportunity. She received her Masters degree at Georgetown University. Currently living in Washington DC, working for Development Finance Corporation. I was also extremely fortunate to work with the Family Violence Prevention Fund(SF)-now called Futures Without Violence-and help develop a program that teaches young athletes that violence against women is inappropriate. Coaching basketball also allowed me to travel all over the world. (China, Denmark, Sweden, New Zealand, Australia and Czechoslovakia.) Either running basketball camps, coaching clinics, or taking teams to compete. Basketball was awfully good to me. Was a board member (25 years) and Pas...(read more)
