Class of 1982
Marine Corps, 20+ Years
I entered boot camp on July 23rd 1982 and graduated on Oct 14th 1982 at Parris Island, SC. I went to Ft Bliss, Tx for MOS training after which I was stationed at MCAS Cherry Point, NC. Being in NC was not much different from living in Lynchburg so I requested a tour in Okinawa Japan. I arrived in Okinawa on Dec 7th 1983 and after six months there decided that I loved the island and requested an extention for 36 months. Japan was beautiful and the people were nice and I learned some Japanese and traveled all over Asia while stationed there. Leaving Japan in Aug of 1986 I returned to Cherry Point. I met and married a woman While at Cherry Point. I was then assigned to the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit and set sail for the Mediteranian Sea which lasted six months. Returning to Cherry Pt for a brief time I received orders to go back to Japan in 1989 taking my wife and daughter with me. I served one year in Japan and returned back to Cherry Pt, NC. Shortly after returning from Japan I was deployed to Desert Shield/Storm for the duration. When I returned from the war I divorced my wife and shortly afterwards took orders back to Japan. After one year in Japan I returned to Cherry Pt, NC and was selected to consult for a weapons manufacturer in Burlington, Vt. which was a six month assignment. I reported to Burlington in Jan of 1995 where I produced and compiled the instruction manual for the LAVAD Blazer system. I was then tasked with teaching the employment of the weapon system in Yuma, Az. After the six month assignment I returned to Cherry Pt, NC where I met my current wife and best friend. We married the following year and I was reassigned to Camp Pendleton, Ca to help start up a new unit of the newest addition to the Marine Corps arsenal, The LAV-AD. I served there the remaining six years of my career and then retired.
