| Favorite School Memory | Older folks telling me to enjoy that period of my life while I still could, that I would look back and remember it as being the easiest and least stressful period of my life. And I thought they were nuts How could they possibly relate to my stress? I had a job AND homework AND I lived at ...(read more) |
| About Me | Since my good friend Phil Crouse convinced me it would be a good idea to talk to his Marine Corps recruiter in 1984... I was standing on the infamous "yellow footprints" a few weeks later. The next 20 years, 9 months and 22 days were pretty much a blur. I enlisted as a Food Service Specialist (cook, slop-slinger, grunt with a spatula). Great thing about that job is that wherever Marines go, we have to eat! I deployed to over 20 countries. Some were excellent vacation-type spots (Barbados), while many made me appreciate America even more (Freetown, Sierra Leone). Karen met me in Brazil during one of my trips there, and the entire family spent three years in Okinawa, Japan. I did various types of duty including Command Financial Specialist, Liaison Officer, Recruiting Duty, Legal Officer, International Rifle and Pistol Team, Chief Academics Officer, and SACO. SACO stands for - get this - Substance Abuse Counseling Officer. I was the Marine who did the drug education/awareness training for about 600 Marines, assisted with criminal investigations, advised the Commanding Officer on the legal issues regarding random room searches and urinalyses testing, and I supervised the collection, security and shipping of all the samples. If you don't see the irony in that, you didn't know me that well in High School. Let me introduce myself,... After an ACL tear in 2004 (and surgery that didn't go as well as we had hoped), I retired in February 2005. Karen (Lambrecht) and I have been married since 1986; we've been blessed with Spencer (16) and Rachel (11). Karen left her career to be a full-time Mom and Homemaker when Spencer was born in 1991, supports various ministries, and currently teaches 4th grade Sunday School at our church. I have worked for Northrop Grumman Corporation, a defense contractor, since I retired. I am the Project Operations Coordinator, Learning Management System Administrator, and Livelink system Administrator. I am also a substitute Sunday School teacher for our adult class, and help Karen with the 4th graders (that's a tough crowd). Karen and I also helped launch a local chapter of Christ-centered ministry based on the secular 12-step programs. I take care of the media and training, and also serve as a Small Group Leader every Friday evening. Never doubt that God will use your past (or present) trials for good. Maybe not on your schedule, but definitely in His time, on His plan. Romans 8:28 I"ll stop here. Need to save something to talk about in case we mak...(read more) |
