| About Me | Who is Vincent Walker? Vincent Walker was birthed into music with a musician father who traveled with the likes of Shirley Caesar, The Royal Travelers and The Mighty Clouds of Joy. Rooted in gospel music Walker found it no feat to follow in the footsteps of his father. The New Jersey native took advantage of musical opportunities that came about in his home area. Walker was groomed in the ministry of music as a member of the St. Paul Fire Baptized Holiness Church’s Inspirational choir – which later under the direction of Natalie Wilson became The SOP Chorale. With the choir Walker was under the tutelage of producers Joe “Flip” Wilson, Carlton Pope and Derrick Lee, learning the art of recording. Walker recorded lead vocals for the track “I Am the Righteousness” featured on the choir’s second album “Not the Same.” Aspiring in his artistry, Walker shared the stage with an array of recording artists including Hezekiah Walker and Pastor John P. Kee. He has lent his talent as backup vocalist to Karen Clark-Sheard, Kim Burrell and others. Walker furthered into the gospel industry doing studio work with Rev. Milton Biggham, Donald Malloy and Natalie Wilson & The SOP Chorale. Becoming seasoned in his craft, Walker established his own music ministry in 1998 by forming an ensemble -- Testimonies of Joy. This group of urban young adults is contemporary with an east coast swing. They display a radical sense of praise of worship that is groomed from the old school yet progressive. In 2001 the group gained notoriety by placing first in the Six Flags Great Adventure Choir Search. The following year Testimonies of Joy ranked in the Adult Group category in McDonald’s Gospel Fest held in New York City. In the latter of 2002 the group premiered in the Paris, France stage play “Freedom of the Opera Gospel.” Along with being featured in this production, Walker and Testimonies of Joy recording the full musical soundtrack. Walker emerged with Testimonies of Joy in 2007 releasing their debut album, “Book of Testimonies Chapter 1.” The record is an example of the group’s tenacious approach to gospel music. A mixer of ballads, mid-tempo and upbeat songs showcase layered harmonies over beautifully orchestrated arrangements. With beautiful melodies and profound lyrics in their simplicity of who God is, this project takes you to a place of thankfulness and appreciation. Since his freshman release, Walker has revamped the group. His brief hiatus from the gospel music scene brought about a new vision. With the group now under the moniker Forgiven Experience, Walker is gearing up for a single release in the fall from their forthcoming self-titled album. “The Forgiven Experience&...(read more) |
