NBA basketball player for the New Jersey Nets

What is Mark Jones known for?

Mark Anthony Jones was born on April 10, 1961, in Rochester, New York. Before becoming an NBA player, he attended East High School in Rochester, NY, and later played college basketball at St. Bonaventure from 1979 to 1983.

During his college years, Jones averaged 15.2 points per game. In 1982, he was named to the All-Eastern Athletic Association first team, and the following year he made it to the second team of the renamed Atlantic 10 Conference. Even today, he holds the ninth rank in terms of overall score in St. Bonaventure history.

Jones started his professional basketball career when he was selected by the New York Knicks in the 1983 NBA draft as the 82nd overall pick in the 4th round. However, he did not have the chance to play for the Knicks as he was cut from the final roster shortly before the start of the 1983-84 season. Shortly after, he signed with the New Jersey Nets and played six games for them, scoring 7 points.

After the NBA, Jones played in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) for the Albany Patroons under coach Phil Jackson. Here, he played in 29 games and averaged 10.8 points per game, contributing significantly to the Patroons' victory in the CBA championship.
