About Me I have lived my life to the fullest, knowing that I had CKD since birth, but refused to let this disease take over my life! I heard the doctors tell my parents that I probably would not live to see 12! I have always fought hard to overcome any illness that I have developed due to CKD! It has been a long road, and at times it was a struggle to keep going! I am proud of all that I have accomplished in my life. Things my family never dreamed they would see! Graduation from Elementary School, High School, College with Certificates for LPN, then Early Childhood Development, and last was Certified Bookkeeper, Certificate in Computer Science, and Degree in Accounting! I even had my own company the last 10 years of my ability to work! I also went to Cake Art classes and had a Catering Service part time for 15 years. I moved out to be on my own and eventually married a classmate to which we dated for 8 years before moving in together, then two years later married. I lost my beloved husband 4 months shy of our 40th anniversary! He had been my best friend , my rock during multiple surgeries. We moved to Jefferson in 1996 as I took on a job to open and run the first Board of Realtors in this Region! I was the Associate Executive for I-85 North Board of Realtors for Jackson County and surrounding areas. I took all of the courses and had one last test to take when I became ill, and was told that I was placing too much strain on my body! I went back to work against my doctors suggestion and in December of 1999 decided that I had worked enough! I started working earning my own money at 11 babysitting and cutting grass, or other odd jobs and bought my school clothes, and money for vacations with my family! I told my husband I have been working for 35 years almost 7 days a week, at times having 2-4 jobs that it was time for him to carry the load! Our land home and cars were paid for, it was time for me to take care of my health! By the time I stopped working I had lost my youngest brother that I helped to raise. He had developed Leukemia the type that children get only he was 33 at the time! He had a Bone Marrow Transplant and was cancer free when he returned from Minneapolis, MN. A week later received a letter that stated that some of the blood products that had been given had been found to have Hepatitis C. He did not ever recover from the Hepatitis-C. It had attacked his lungs and in February of 1995 I lost the only child that I had a part in raising him from age 3 until he was 18! In August of 1999 I lost my mother to Alzheimer’s and buried her on what would’ve been her 71st birthday! 6 years latter to the day we buried our father. My only sister who had been like a second mom to me when I was growing up developed CKD from diabetes. She lost her husband in 2001 unexpectedly from a brain aneurysm right in front of her. That first year was very difficult for her so I spent as much time as possible to help her to get past this loss! For the next 11.8 years I divided my time between her and my husband! He was taking care of his mom until 2012 then he helped out with my sister until her death on Christmas morning around 4:30 a.m. 2014! I had a hard time dealing with the loss of her! In 2017 I had to have another surgery to my spine and I almost did not pull through! It was supposed to be at 8 a.m. and home by noon. For some unknown reason I did not wake up as I should have. They put me in ICU sent my husband home! I began to wake up around 5 a.m. I say began because it was difficult for me to shake off the effects of the medication used to put me to sleep! This was the 4th surgery to my spine. I had never had problems with any of the surgeries I had been through! But this one put a huge scare in my husband!. It frightened him as he found out how lonely he would be without me! Then in 2020 the day before the world stopped due to Covid I awoke to find he had passed in his sleep! He had not been sick! So I knew it had to be a heart attack! It would be 6 days before I could even have a funeral. I found out it was a Widow Maker heart attack nothing I or anyone could have done to save him! In November of 2024 the day before Thanksgiving I fell broke my arm and wrist on the left! Two weeks later I awoke and did not feel right. I don’t know how to explain only that I knew something wasn’t right and had my niece take me to the hospital! My kidney was trying to stop working! My CKD was letting me know that changes were about to begin! I went from 2 doctors and 12 prescriptions to 16 doctors and 36 prescriptionss! As of today Aug. 2, 2026 I am stable however, it doesn’t take much to be back in the hospital as the CKD has begun to attack all the other organs in and out of my body! So it may not be my Kidney failure to actually end my life, but will be the base for whatever causes my life to end! I hope and pray to live ma...(read more)
