| Favorite School Memory | Class of 1962 is probably the last class to remember that boys separated to the right and girls to the left to enter the high school. Required dress for girls was a dress! ...Until, casual Fridays allowed slack apparel (no jeans), which soon was also extended. Meals were cooked on site and filled the hallways with wonderful aromas and cost 25 cents ($1.25 for weekly punch ticket). Dancing to rock and roll 45s in the gym was a favorite noontime activity. The click-click sound in the hall was not from stilettoes but from the steel caps on the guys boots. Basketball game nights produced a crowd which rocked the gym with shouts, applause, and che...(read more) |
| About Me | Linda Boyd, Class of 1962… My kids are techies. Daughter Rhonda loves scuba and has 20 years with State Farm. My two boys are East Coast “Bandits” sucking our tax dollars as contractors for the federal government. Son Steven just published The Human Whisperer and son Daniel is ranked in Frisbee golf. See picture w/my sibs…Grey hair! Clockwise, after me…Janet, class of 1960, retired insurance agent, hasn’t turned grey, but she has shortened as she once was taller than me. Jim, class of 1958, is retired engineer. Dan, class of 1964, is retired Baptist minister. Me? I taught university level composition at Sacred Heart University, CT and ISU, Normal for about a decade, started several retail adventures for about a decade, worked various secretarial positions for about a decade --from stores clerk at Staley to assistant to Bridgeport CT hospital administrator, built and operated Tanglewood Village for about a decade. I blame my lack of a sustained career to a lifelong struggle with a short attention span. I am currently building a spec house in Tuscola. With that said, I’m pretty much an armchair bumpkin in my retirement years. I enjoy a “little” yard work, a bit of travel and genealogy research. If no other claim to fame, my pedigree is impressive. I am a direct descendent of William Bradford, Mayflower arrival and a governor of Salem. None of my ancestors came after the American Revolution and I’ve found at least a dozen who fought for our country’s independence from Major Douglas to many Privates, with one serving the winter at Valley Forge. My ancestors fought on both sides in the Civil War. There were ministers and scoundrels (sometimes two different people). A story like most…(I included an old pix of Boyd cousins, many of whom graduated from Argenta. We still get together first Monday of the mont...(read more) |
