About Me Shirley and I were married on 2 Sept 1962 and our Honey Moon trip was a cruise to the island of Nassau in the Bahama Islands. Active duty in the USAF was then Navigator Training, Electronic Warfare Officer Training, Survival Training, and B-52 Combat Crew Training from Oct 1962 to Oct 1964. I was then assigned to the 20 Bomb Squadron (BS) in the Strategic Air Command (SAC) at Carswell Air Force Base (AFB) in Fort Worth Texas. I was then part of the this countries 1st use of the SAC B-52 in combat following orders to bomb the North Vietnamese and Viet Cong during the Viet Nam war. I had 22 combat missions during the Viet Nam war with our 20th BS from July to Nov 1965 flying out of Anderson AFB on Guam in the Mariana Islands. We dropped 51 bombs, 24 500 pound bombs and 27 750 pound bounds, on each mission. I did not get shot down, fortunately, since our 1st boy, Randy, was born by my precious wife Shirley at Carswell AFB in Aug and I first saw our boy when the 20th BS returned to Carswell AFB in Nov. My last 2 years in the 20th BS were alert and practice missions and 24 hour Airborne Alert missions up near the North Pole waiting for the Go Code. If the Russians had started WWIII, I would have been among the first to fly in to bomb Moscow with our Atom bombs. If WWIII had started all the Atom bombs and ICBM Nuclear explosions in Russian and this country and other parts of the world would have been the end of this world due to the resulting nuclear radiation. I have always had to thank God our father that WWIII was not allowed to happen. My Air Force active duty ended in Aug 1967 and I began work at Teledyne Brown Engineering (TBE) in Huntsville, Alabama as the project physicist with a Special Top Secret Clearance in the Intelligence analysis of the Russian ICBM capabilities and our methods for interceptions. We had our 2nd boy, Brad, born in Huntsville and then we were transferred by TBE to Rockwell International (RI) in Colorado Springs, Colorado and then Boeing took RI and I became the Senior Systems Analyst. I finally retired from Boeing in Aug 2002 and we then moved back up to Minnesota from Colorado in May of 2016 since Shirley and I both grew up in Minnesota. We are nearly at o...(read more)
